Freight dogs: Knights of the skies

Some of the best pilots I’ve ever flown with are freight crews. The following week a diverse crew went to Churchill in a DC-8 and picked up everyone and everything, including four child whales that weighed about 750 pounds every single. They had been every single in a wooden tank with a bladder underneath them so they could stay in water, but couldn’t get away. (Apart from, a parachute wouldn’t match close to them anyway and none of them had been armed to take over the aircraft and force the pilot to fly them to Frobisher Bay or some other haven for whales in Canada.) The aircraft landed at O’Hare and the whales, personnel and materiel had been trucked down to the aquarium.
